Using this wrench instead of a screwdriver will protect the fins from breaking off the filter case. 89810-00891 Wrist pin checking tool (check for straightness) dni dial The single biggest cause of rod bearing failure after an engine has been over revved or stressed is bent rod bolts. When you over rev the engine the big end of the rod goes out of round for a moment and when if does causes the rod bolts to bend. The aluminium rod wants to return to shape but the rod bolts being steel want to hold their new shape and are bent holding the rod out of round. When the rod is out of round due to a over rev the sides of the rod big end are held in and out of round by the strong steel rod bolts this reduces or eliminates the normal bearing clearance. This lack of clearance will cause bearing failure resulting in a burnt bearing and eventually a hole in the pan and block. Usually this failure is falsely attributed to oil, the oil pump, the bearing or the rod bolts breaking. If the bearing is burnt the rod bolts did not break first though they may have caused the problem. The destroyed parts are no longer available to check and the true cause is never found. Check your rod bolts and eliminate problems. An easy to check the rod bolt to see if it is bent is to use the KLRC rod bolt checker. If you don't the sticky tires will pick up rocks and throw them down the exhaust and the rocks will go into the engine. The 351 Cleveland is nearly the worst engine for this problem. Only the SBC is worse due to the angle of the exhaust port mounting. Cooling systems components --------------------------- Electric Water Pump ![]() The KLRC 12 volt water pump is a powerful light weight turbine type pump that pumps enough water to cool any drag race car. We use this water pump on our 500 cubic inch modified dragster and drive the car all over the track because we do not need the tow car to help keep the engine cool. The pump is quiet and draws very little amperage which saves the battery The pump weights less than a pound. DYO racing is about consistency. One of the items that you must keep consistent is the engine temperature. Overflow tanks and recovery systems -------------------- KLRC recommends you plumb the cooling system overflow as a coolant recovery system. This will keep air out of your engine which causes hot spots and causes variations in engine performance .
